Jewel Tones w/ Julz Doloroza
Let’s find out more about the sounds and tones of Canadian singer songwriter Julz Doloroza – who she is inspired by, and how she decided to get in to music.
SB (StarBeat): Research: Are there any artists that inspire you?
JD (Julz Doloroza): Yes! I’ve always been obsessed with Michael Jackson. I admire how free he was onstage, how devoted to his craft he was, and how hard he worked.
Another huge one is Nicki Minaj, who has worked hard to climb the ladder in a very tough industry. I love how unapologetic she is with the lyrics she writes. No matter what, Nicki always keeps going!
I strive to be as fearless and focused as these artists.
SB: Benefits: What’s your favourite part about what you do?
JD: There is something so relaxing and therapeutic about writing lyrics. I feel the most in touch with myself when I’m in the middle of a song writing session. Another part I like is how I connect with people I don’t know through my music.
I hope my listeners continue to relate to my songs in a way where they feel understood.
SB: The Leap: When did you know you wanted to get into the music business?
JD: Shortly after I finished College, I said to myself, “Life is too short to not be doing what makes you happy!”. Singing and writing was my getaway and I owed it to myself to get into it professionally. A year after working in a small office, I finally pushed myself to get onstage and share my music for once.
I loved every second of it!
