Misty Notes w/ Nicole Mariee
Let’s find out more about Austin based indie singer-songwriter Nicole Mariee who has released her first EP ‘Begin Again’ which has a Pop vibe with an R&B edge.
SB (StarBeat): Start-Up: How long ago did you get your start in the music industry?
NM (Nicole Mariee): Growing up in Austin, Texas, I fell in love with music when I was only 5 years old. I remember playing nursery rhymes by ear at the piano and shortly after, I began singing in church. My parents played a variety of music. Gospel, R&B, Soul, Funk, and jazz.
I wrote my first song when I was 11. I took a piano class and I was in choir in highschool, and from there, I went to school and majored in Music Performance and Music Business.
SB: Influencers: Who are some of your influences?
NM: Alicia Keys. She’s the one who inspired me to want to learn how to play the piano, then there’s Christina Aguilera. The way she commands the stage is incredible. Then there’s artists from my parents days from Motown like Marvin Gaye, Smoky Robinson, The Tempations, and more who I grew up listening to.
SB: Signature: Are you signed or an independent artist?
NM: Growing up I wanted to be a major artist, but that was before I realized how the industry can be. So I recently started my own record label called, Arise Music Group.
SB: New Release: You currently have your first EP out titled, Begin Again that was released in 2017. Are you currently working on new music and if so what can fans expect from your next project?
NM: Yes I’m working on new music! On my first project, it was more pop, and I’m finding my sound as an artist. Fans can expect a more soulful, jazz, R&B feel with the next release.
SB: Destination: What is your ultimate goal as an artist in the industry?
NM: Touring worldwide, winning or even being nominated for a Grammy Award. I have the Grammy trophy as my screen saver on my phone and it’s staying that way until that day comes.
SB: DMs: What message do you want to get across to fans through your music?
NM: Love and positivity.
