Musical Daze w/ Hannah Dorman

Featuring

These days Hannah Dorman is living her childhood dream as a singer and gaining followers wherever she goes. Let’s find out more about her path to the music so far.

SB (StarBeat): Drawn In: What brought you to singing and music?

HD (Hannah Dorman): As cliché as it sounds I’ve always wanted to be a ‘popstar’ for as long as I can remember. I would point at the TV and say to Mum “I’m going to be on there one day”. I wrote my first song when I was 8 and started to learn guitar at 9. I had vocal coaching at the age of 14 as I wasn’t naturally gifted with a good singing voice, but I knew it was what I wanted to do and I had passion and drive so wasn’t giving up!

I played my first pub gig at the age of 15 and then continued to gig around Surrey, London and the south over the past 9 and a half years and haven’t looked back! I studied for 4 years at ACM in Guildford and now have a band who back me.

SB: Influencers: What type of music influences you?

HD: I used to listen to a lot of Anastacia, Avril Lavigne and Shania Twain when I was younger, then artists like KT Tunstall and Kelly Clarkson who I feel all have their place in my music today. I keep up to date with chart music as I like to know what’s current and what’s trending. McFly, Take That and Little Mix have been very inspirational over my musical career so far, seeing them perform has made me strive and has had a huge impact on me.

Hannah DormanSB: New Release: You just dropped a couple of new songs, can you tell us about your new music?

HD: I’m so excited about the new singles we’ve released as they’re upbeat and so fun to play live, the first is called ‘Part of Me’ which I wrote about my Grandma, she lived with us and had dementia and she holds such a special place in my heart. The second is ‘Okay (Not Okay)’ which came around when one day after a breakup I sat down and sighed and thought, you know what, I’m not okay.

When we see people we always have the same conversation “Hey, how are you?” “I’m great thanks, how are you?”.. when actually, we’re not great at all. I was putting up a front for so long like we all do and I just thought, I’m going to write about this, so I did and it’s relatable to so many of us!

SB: Extra-Curricular: When you are not doing music, what would we find you doing?

HD: Filming and editing! I upload weekly videos on YouTube, some music, some beauty videos and some chatty ‘get to know me’ style videos which I LOVE doing. Music will always be my number one passion, but uploading to YouTube is so fun, gives me little weekly projects to work towards and means I can constantly be creative which I thrive on.

Hannah DormanSB: Next Steps: What cool things do you have planned next?

HD: We’re getting back into the rehearsal room to work on new material, then it’ll be back to the studio to get it all down! We have some shows coming up in Autumn and planning to tour before the year’s up to really showcase the new singles and the new material!
